The 2011 National Assessment of Oil and Gas Resources: Assessment of the Pacific Outer Continental Shelf Region is available on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management website (www.boem.gov). Several sections were removed from the original version, because the Resource Evaluation Division of BOEM decided they were controversial. The information that was deleted was comments regarding public opposition to development in many of the coastal communities, and had been presented previously at several annual conventions of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The author, Kenneth Piper, wrote those comments because the assessment report was intended to be both an informational document and a decision document.
